What curriculum does our camp use?
Have you ever wondered where Pine Valley Outdoor Science Camp sources its materials? Although all of our curriculum is unique to our program, we utilize the following to source the best materials:
- Grades of Green We are proud to join forces with our newest partner, a nonprofit organization that provides curriculum, stipends, and grants to K-12 educational programs based on environmental service projects and student leadership opportunities. When we found out about Grades of Green, we were surprised to discover that many of the hands-on projects we do at Outdoor Science Camp already qualified us for a stipend! Your school can also join Grades of Green and apply what your students do at camp to earn your own educational stipend.
- NASA Yes, our nation’s space program has chosen to partner with Pine Valley Outdoor Science Camp! We worked with NASA GLOBE Goes to Camp to create our Trees & Me science and leadership class and keep in contact with them for other potential opportunities. Why would NASA have an interest in trees? You’ll have to join this class to find out!
- Camp Experience We are blessed to have an outdoor education staff from a variety of backgrounds, including years of experience working with other camps. Our staff has pulled ideas from their past experience to create and improve our current curriculum. We even gain insight from camp professionals outside of our camp! In addition to visiting other camps and outdoor education programs, we keep up our memberships with the American Camp Association and the Christian Camp & Conference Association. In fact, our accreditation with American Camp Association means we have passed annual inspections with stringent standards focused on safety, wellness, programming, and staffing.
- The Bible With our foundation on a Christian camp, the Bible is our source above any textbook. This collection of books explores the history of Earth and humankind and how we can be better stewards of these natural gifts. When we work with Christian schools, our classes conclude with a short Bible study of how we can apply the scientific principles we just learned to life. When working with public schools and other secular schools, while we follow all laws and do not directly quote the Bible, we nevertheless aim to instill positive character qualities in all of our students.
